1. MANUFACTURING INFORMATION
Kinds of Bamboo used
The yellow bamboo is our standard. We use two species which groe in West Jawa. Please note that with the time bamboo will slightly darken
its colour, getting a kind of golden touch. Dark spots which may appear as "manufacturing failures"
originate from the growing environment and are mostly caused by culms rubbing each other in the wind.
As to simulate the natural black bamboo we use stain. e Black Bamboo.
Selection and Preprocessing
Selected and approx. four years old culms are harvested and cut at one meter above the ground, as the
bottom part is of considerably bigger size and water content. For our furniture
the
straigth middle part of 3,5 to 4 meters is used. First the inside walls of
the nodes are removed as they are a potential risk for eventual
later cracking. The skin is completely peeled off. After clean water treatment the poles are put in a
bath with a special chemical composition under permanent control of
the fluid density.
The following drying process occurs in a kiln dry system based on solar energy coupled with a night burner. The drying will take 10-12 days following a programmed schedule by controlling the temperature and relative humidity in the chamber as to achieve the required moisture contents of bamboo. Each pole is labeld as to determine its origin, time of harvesting and time spent in drying.
Finishing
Before entering the construction process poles are further peeled
and smoothed as to achieve the required appearance. Later finishing
is done exclusively with the high quality, non-poisenous semi mat
polyurethan lacquer. The finishing process comprises multiple
sanding, sealing and finally the top coating.
No chemicals or any other poisonous elements are applied in any phase of the production as oposed to the common treatment containing toxical formaldehyd.
2. BRIEF INFORMATION ON OUR PRODUCTS
Construction Features
All connecting elements between the poles are natural materials.
Thinner bamboo is used for joining the poles to units, fixing pins
are from bamboo too. The corner joints are made from rattan
bindings, which also are used to cover the open ends of the poles.
For mechanical stabilty we developed a special joint system used
with models other than those with plugged-in elements.
Pole ends are covered with rattan core webbing, webbed leather or with hand made polished mahony wood caps exactly fitting the individual pole shape and dimensions.
For the Interior Cover of cabinets, chests of drawers and night tables we use bamboo or rattan webbing i.e. a special high quality Sungkai wood vernier. For Exterior Covering rattan webbing ("carpet") or bamboo slats are used.
Specifications
The bed frames consist of poles with 10-12 cm diameter, resulting in
model depending frame heights of ca 36 to 42 cm. Inside dimensions
follow the european standard 140x200 up to 200x200 cm with optional
oversizes. The outside dimensions are construction dependent, please
see the individual frame descriptions.
The frames do not contain slatted frame supporting bars. Bambo slatted Frames are a stand alone option. Any kind of self made stand alone frame may be used to support the custumers own slatted frame.
Cabinets and chests of drawers are made from poles of 8-9 cm, smaller accessoires from 7-8.5 cm poles. Tables and chairs consist of poles of 6 cm diameter.
The above data may vary, as the items are made from a natural material, each pole having its own specific characteristics.
Assembly
The bed frames consist of four or five units constituting a set with
head and foot part, two side parts and eventually a separate head.
Our assembling system is easy to perform in less than 10-15 minutes.
Other items are factory assembled.
Packing
Disassembled components are put in carton boxes as for
the safety of the transportation.
Placing in a room
Please note that the furniture should not be placed too near to the
heating elements or below a window. Big and sudden changes of
the temperature and the relative humidity are not good for bamboo.
Eventual small cracks, especially in the node area may appear
because bamboo is a natural material. Such effects are of no
relevance for the stability of the item.
Customized Solutions
All kinds of individual solutions are possible, such as kind of
bamboo, features and colour of rattan i.e. leather bindings, kind
and colour of wooden caps etc. Customers own designs are welcome
too.
